IMO there is a missed chance here, as the CD -or other digital formats- offer the possibillity to add the concert endings/codas to either of these movements, which Berg composed in case of a performance of a single movement. That's the ending he used in his trio transcription of the slow movement. In the LP-era there was at least one recording (Weissenberg on EMI???) where a concert ending was used at the end of the mvt after which the LP had to be turned over, a really thoughtful solution where to make a break. Btw Haydnguy, you spotted the Schönberg Kammersymphonie quote (the very opening of that piece) in the first mvt of the concerto? |
