I find this term 'ethnic music' REALLY annoying. Isn't ALL music 'ethnic' inasmuch as it is created and/or performed by people of one ethnicity or another (yes, we're ALL 'ethnic' people!). I find the term 'world music' equally ridiculous (as ALL music is 'world music'). Let's find some better terms, please (eg 'traditional', 'non-western classical' (if that's what it is), etc).

Look Mr. Uppity Manager. I merely took the title from the programme I was listening to, which didn't really worry me at all. So if it annoyed you then my apologies.
I really don't think I qualify to post on this forum so , I shall be off and annoy no more, albeit unwittingly.

Cheers and a Merry Christmas .
G'day.

Well, my intention wasn't to frighten anyone off, merely to express an opinion, which is what fora like this are designed for. I apologise if I 'offended' you, but my aim was to perhaps elicit an interesting exchange of views on the labelling of music.

One doesn't need to be 'qualified' to contribute to this forum further than having a love of and interest in music. So, please don't go on my account!

I haven't seen Joey Ayala live. I know though that he uses mainly original Philippine tribal instruments like the Kutyapi etc, or tribal inspired instruments with modern parts/modifications. Or sometimes a guitar. ^_^ ... But i haven't heard him use other Asian instruments. :-/

I grew up listening to his music. Thanks for mentioning him. I haven't re-listened to his music in a very long time. ^_~d
