This man had such an impact in the way we listened to music throughout the century that I naturally believed that he would never go away. He wasn't 86, he was ageless, as the music itself.

I include a link to Schubert's Erlkonig sung by Fischer-Dieskau and accompanied by Gerald Moore. It's one of my favourites. This singer will be greatly missed not only for his artistry but because he was an elegant man with a very cultured background.
