Default Rameau - Les Grands Motets

A composer not often (enough) discussed!! I have a CD of these works with Dr. Christie and Les Arts Florissants (can they do anything wrong??). Here's a little taste, not by Les Arts, but giving a good idea of what's available from this highly theatrical composer, Rameau:

J.P.Rameau requires NO introduction! My GOSH one of the Finest Orchestrators of the AGE; his Musical Oeuvre covers a vast array of Works! I was just about to Post some of "Les Fêtes de Polymnie" wonderful piece! His Ouvertures-suites are quite simply sensational!!!There's a CD on AMATi that plays ALL the Dances from "Dardanus" 1739 & "Hippolyte et Aricie" 1733,1742 & 1757!! His and "others" Grand Motets are delectable! Deus noster refugiam One of my very Favourites!!! I also love "Le princess de Navarre" and many other works too!!

Rameau hit me like a ton of bricks when I was younger. To borrow from Monty Python, "Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!"

Only in my case it was his 1733 opera, "Hippolyte et Aricie". In fact it was Wm. Christie's superb recording of the work with Mark Padmore and Anna Maria Panzarella and Les Arts Florissants that swept me off my feet and left me breathless by the side of the road.

To this very day, the music of Rameau continues to amaze and charm me. His ability to paint images of Nature with music is so powerful.

Ahh Yes! Those Christie recordings seminal & quite devine! I'd like to draw your attention to a wonderful Set I recently twisted my own arm and purchased, The ALIAVOX Double CD Set with [I]Suites d'Orchestre[I] BY Le Concert des Nations under Jordi Savall SIMPLY scintillating and quite beguiling performances here that just radiate that special French Baroque Glow..that sweeps you along with both Grace & Wonder!! I also realised I didn't have all the Dances to Les Indes Galantes 1735! Other Works here are Nais 1748, Zoroastre 1749 and finally One of my all-time favourites Les Boréades 1764!♫♪♫♪♫ Quelle Musique sublime!!!☺

I love Rameau's jumpy notes, and juicy trills !!!

I agree !!! ... this blows me away ... and i can forgive Lars Ulrik Mortensen for the "orgasmic display" at 00:06 ... i'm sure it can't be helped
