May I make a slight deviation from this pussy topic? For my daughter's 8th birthday - just the other day - we offered her the rabbit she so wanted. Well, we gave her the hutch and other paraphanalia associated with such beasties, we'll purchase the furry thing on our return from holiday. Thing is, this means I will no longer be able to serve lapin a la moutarde, a dish I particularly like.

I am rather like that Tex Avery wolf, that when it sees an animal (a chicken, a rabbit, etc.) you see the 'thought bubble' above its head with the animal cooked and dressed for serving. I will stop eating sentient animals the moment they implore me not to do so in plain English. Until then, they are fair game for my table !

And so, back from holiday. Spent a few hot hours erecting the rabbit hutch for my daughter; the rabbit comes in a few days, though in this heat I do worry the poor foodstuff will suffer.

You're such a good Dad (what we don't do for our little darlings...)! When our son was about that age we also bought him a rabbit. We removed the bottom of the metal cage it came in, and instead of having to bother with all that rabbit poo-simply moved the cage to a "clean" patch of grass every day.
