Default Hey I'm new and here's a piece YAY!

Hey yo yo
Just found this forum - I'm always on the lookout for classical forums but sometimes they seem to elude me. Anyways hopefully it's ok to post my tunes here. Currently I'm looking for a group who would like to play this little number because I'd like to finish the next 2 or 3 mvts, but I'd rather only do that if I can find a group to play it. Anyway please enjoy and let me know if you know any quartets who have run out of new music :-)

Very good indeed, Tomposer! I heard snatches of Bartok, but the one name that came crashing to my mind as I listened to this movement was Tippett! You write very well for the string quartet, I find (unlike Philip Glass's silly efforts). Keep it up! Are you a string player, by any chance?

I'm very impressed too, Tomposer - is it a completed quartet?

Thought there was a dash of Stravinsky in there too - interesting textures and rhythms

I think you're right, Musaeus, about the Stravinsky. It is quite competent string writing, whatever the influences may be. I find it very 'idiomatic', which is why I asked Tomposer if he was a string player. If not, I'd bet his "significant other" is. Not only that, there is a true feeling of "dialogue" which is the mark of a good quartet writer, which Philip Glass has never convinced me he was. Scott (Good), if you're reading this, this may be one issue I have with the violin/piano piece you posted.

He he he thanks for all the positive feedback guys - much appreciated! :-)

Actually I'm not a string player, and my significant other is a pianist :-)

However I do go to a lot of trouble with idiomatic writing though; I like to borrow instruments when I'm writing something complex in order to check hand positions etc.
