Since the premiere of Pēteris Vasks' flute concerto is coming up and is available/recordable via stream: if the concerto comes close to Vasks' violin concerto, it will be without fail an enrichment of the flute literature. Keeping in mind that Tala Gaisma (Distant Light) is one of the most often played violin concerti today, flutists can be really looking forward to it!
Emotional, easy-going for the ear, melancholic, tonal, exactly that, what avangardists call "girly music" - great! The flute concerto is said to be full of nature remindings, together with Vasks' usually very colourful orchestration I can imagine it will be a nice experience to listen to. Here's the last movement of Tala Gaisma, just to give you an idea of Vasks in case you're not familiar with him: Last edited by Mischa; 20-01-09 at 07:00 AM. Reason: hmm... |
