Well she was married to Arthur Miller...
It is well known that she played up the dumb blonde thing because that is what men expected of her. And you fell for it - lol .

Sweet photos.
I know she wasn't a dumb blonde, but she just kinda looked like it in that one photo. And she wasn't a skinny twig either! mmmmmmmm.... |

Anyway, back on topic...
I am reading Mortal Engines by Philip Reeve. It's a children's (or teenagers') book, but don't be put off by that. I am loving it. It is eclectic* but still wonderfully imaginative. Shades of Pullman, Diana Wynn Jones, even Mad Max. |

The Goshawk by TH White (Sword in the Stone/Once & Future King). A non-fiction account of White renting a game-keeper's cottage in the middle of nowhere (England, early 1950s) and training a goshawk. An intense battle of wills between a fierce, small-brained raptor and a depressive, alcoholic Tory anarchist.

Now that I've read all the Beatrix potter, I'm looking for something else that is 'cute' and heaviliy illustrated with quality drawings or paintings, preferably early 20th century at the latest.
Any suggestions folks? |

A bit late (c. 1935?) but have you read Farmer Giles of Ham by Tolkien? Beautiful illustrations by Pauline Baynes, plus an ace dragon called Chrysophylax.
