Liszt Petrarch sonnet. I think ... at least according to my CD, this is sonnet no. 104, but it's labeled as 47 on youtube. Whatever, here's a singer we haven't heard much of on Brightcecilia!

Indeed, and he was such a great singer! One of my favorite tenors.

Another one we didn't hear much of is Franz Liszt.

I noticed on the complete Alban Berg boxed set that Juliane Banse (Soprano), sings with Abbado and Co. in quite a few of those pieces.

That made me decide to go back an revisit the CPO Brahms Lieder CD's because she was what I thought was the weakness of the performances. Sometimes a second listen gives a different impression.

One of my favourite CDs (out of all my music, not only Brahms).

Thanks for that recommendation, Stephen. I had wondered about that one for a long time.

You're very welcome. Particular favourites of mine are, no 16, Die Mainacht, Op 43 /2; and no 17, Ankläge, Op 7 /3

I hope everybody knows that the cpo set is not yet complete. There seems to be a huge delay in releasing volume 9. The set currently goes through Op. 105. Opp. 106, 107, and 121 are not yet available. I was able to get some information from somebody at cpo/jpc and was told that the recording masters have all been done for a while, but there have been circumstances delaying the release of the last discs. Apparently, the duets will also be included, presumably with Banse and Vermillion on the S/A ones and with Schmidt on the ones including baritone. I'm guessing they probably didn't include Op. 75, Nos. 1 and 3 (both very wonderful, very neglected pieces) since they require a tenor.

I don't think the DFD/JN/DB DG set is available anymore. I'm pretty sure that you can cobble them together with separate sets for each singer. I know that the Norman set is complete. Warning--the set offered by jpc is the old EMI set and does NOT include all of the songs DFD did for DG. Notably absent is "Das Lied vom Herrn von Falkenstein," Op. 43, No. 4. I know of no other way to get this song than in the DG complete edition. Also, some of the songs sung by DFD for the old EMI set (with four different pianists, I should say) are taken by JN in the DG complete set (these include "Alte Liebe," Op. 72, No. 1; "Therese," Op. 86, No. 1; and "Todessehnen," Op. 86, No. 6).

Welcome to BC, BrahmsGuides!!!

I just checked, and I have the first 4 cpo volumes. Since they are planning to release almost everything I'll probably go ahead and add to my collection as time goes on.

I haven't seen your site yet but really looking forward to it!!
