A message from Sigiswald Kuijken, artistic director of La Petite
Bande

Dear Sir/Madam,

Dear La Petite Bande sympathiser,

Rejoice with me: today I am able to inform you that on 24 April,
Belgium’s minister of Culture Bert Anciaux awarded an annual
subsidy of € 590,000 to La Petite Bande for the next three years
(2010 to 2012). The extremely negative and tendentious preliminary
advice the Artistic Evaluation Committee gave him in early February
thus missed its intended goal: La Petite Bande’s survival is no
longer threatened, for the time being, thanks to this ministerial
decision.

There is no doubt that your explicit appreciation and support – and
that of so many others with and through you – via the
‘savelapetitebande’ petition made a huge contribution to the
minister’s favourable decision. Your sympathy and unanimity had
already filled my heart with gratitude, and now they’ve even
produced tangible results! I feel very lucky to have this harmonious,
organic exchange of energies.

I was also happy that many of you clearly made it known that
excellence in culture is close to your hearts. It was thus very
significant and beneficent that your call for respectful conservation
of our communal heritage sounded so loudly at this opportunity.

However, even after this subsidy redistribution, the financial future
of La Petite Bande can be called anything but secure:

From 2003 through 2009, La Petite Bande has applied for a yearly
subsidy of € 700,000 to carry out its planned artistic projects;
the effective subsidy during all these years amounted to € 600,000
per year (increased by a slight adjustment to the index). Now that
its annual subsidy has fallen to € 590,000, this € 100,000 annual
shortfall will amount to € 110,000 per year. In 2009 alone, this
recurrent budget deficit has already resulted in having to cancel two
planned Haydn CD recordings: the ‘Paukenmesse’ and a recording of
three concerti which was to finish an already-begun project. There
are other plans underway for the future, which assume considerable
budgetary reserves (such as the research and staging of a Neapolitan
‘intermezzo’ by J.A. Hasse). The continuation of our highly
successful Bach Cantata series for ACCENT is also an operation which
absolutely must not be shelved.

It is clearly necessary that we create ADDITIONAL RESERVES in order
to avoid cutting any more projects and to get through our artistic
agenda.

Encouraged and inspired by the overwhelming international response to
the on-line petition ‘savelapetitebande.com’, on 6 April 2009,
after due consideration, we decided to start a foundation. The new
Foundation ‘SUPPORT LA PETITE BANDE’ has its office at Vital
Decosterstraat 72, B-3000 Leuven. Through the foundation we can
develop a way to be less dependent on increasingly uncertain
government subsidies, and to be able to handle any financial
shortfalls without having to compromise our artistic objectives.

A great many people, like you, have subtly sensed what is important
to La Petite Bande in its work; accordingly, we hope that we can
count on such kindred spirits as you for some devoted support.

I wish to continue steering my independent course with La Petite
Bande in the music world – indeed, for me it’s not about
‘surviving’ by adopting a more ‘commercial’ mentality. On the
contrary: any support given to La Petite Bande is totally
disinterested and above all reveals the particular human and artistic
like-mindedness of the supporter, who recognises him- or herself in
the essence of the Petite-Bande way of thinking.

Thus, I am frankly and explicitly appealing to your willingness to
support us financially in this context through the Foundation
“SUPPORT LA PETITE BANDE”. This support could be a substantial
one-time donation, or it could follow a more sustainable formula,
which we would work out together (a tax deduction is currently not an
option; obviously, publication of names of benefactors is possible).

As a sign of gratitude for your support, I’d like to offer you the
opportunity to meet with me (and the musicians) personally at events
organised especially for them.

All donors are welcome at the first of these events, a concert of
Bach cantatas on Sunday 6 September 2009 in the lovely Gothic church
of St. Martin in Kortrijk (Belgium). On the day before (Saturday 5
September), I’ll give one or more detailed introductions to the
programme, with an opportunity for dialogue (possibly in Dutch,
French, English or German!).

Boodschap vanwege Sigiswald Kuijken , artistiek leider van La Petite

Waarde Heer, Beste Mevrouw,

Beste sympathisant van La Petite Bande,

Verheug u met mij: vandaag kan ik u melden dat de minister van
Cultuur Bert Anciaux op 24 april een jaarlijkse subsidiëring van 590
000 € heeft toegekend aan La Petite Bande voor de volgende drie
jaren ( 2010 tot 2012). Het zeer negatieve en tendentieuze pre-advies
dat hem door de Artistieke Beoordelingscommissie begin februari was
aangereikt miste aldus haar beoogde uitwerking: La Petite Bande is
voorlopig niet meer in haar bestaan bedreigd, dank zij deze
ministeriële beslissing.

Zonder twijfel heeft uw steun en expliciete waardering - en die van
zovele anderen mèt en door u – via de petitie
“savelapetitebande” sterk bijgedragen tot deze positieve
beslissing van de minister; uw sympathie en eenstemmigheid hadden al
mijn hart met dank vervuld, en nu hebben zij ook nog kostbare
vruchten afgeworpen! Ik prijs me gelukkig om deze harmonische,
organische uitwisseling van energieën.

Mij verheugt ook buitenmate dat velen van u duidelijk te kennen
hebben gegeven dat kwaliteit inzake cultuur u na aan het hart ligt.
Het is daarom heel belangrijk en weldoend geweest, dat uw roep om
respectvol behoud van gemeenschappelijk erfgoed zo sterk weerklonk
bij deze gelegenheid.

Toch is ook na deze subsidieverdeling de financiële toekomst voor La
Petite Bande allerminst comfortabel te noemen:

Sinds 2003, en dit tot en met 2009, heeft La Petite Bande jaarlijks
een subsidie aangevraagd van 700 000 € om de vooropgestelde
artistieke projecten te kunnen realiseren; de effectieve subsidie die
het orkest al die jaren ontving, bedroeg echter slechts 600 000 €
per jaar (weliswaar vermeerderd met een lichte aanpassing aan de
index). Nu de jaarlijkse subsidie daalt tot 590 000 € zal dit
tekort van 100 000 € dus nog aangroeien tot 110 000 € per jaar.
Dit chronisch tekort heeft bijvoorbeeld alleen al in 2009 geleid tot
het verplicht schrappen van twee geplande Haydn-CD-opnamen :
enerzijds de “Paukenmesse”, en anderzijds een opname van drie
concerti, die een eerder begonnen project moest afronden. Voor de
toekomst staan nog andere plannen in de steiger die niet
onaanzienlijke budgettaire reserves veronderstellen (bijvoorbeeld
onderzoek naar en scenische realisatie van een Napolitaans
“intermezzo” van J.A.Hasse ) ; ook is de voortzetting van onze
zeer succesvolle Bach-Cantatencyclus voor ACCENT een operatie die
onder geen beding in het gedrang mag komen.

Om herhaling van schrappingen te voorkomen en onze artistieke agenda
af te werken is het dus duidelijk noodzakelijk, een BIJKOMENDE
RESERVE te kunnen aanleggen.

Aangemoedigd en gemotiveerd door de overweldigende internationale
weerklank van de internet-petitie “savelapetitebande.com” hebben
wij op 6 april 2009 na rijp beraad besloten een Stichting op te
richten die de naam draagt “SUPPORT LA PETITE BANDE”, gevestigd
Vital Decosterstraat 72 te B-3000 Leuven. Door middel van deze
Stichting willen wij een manier ontwikkelen om in de toekomst minder
afhankelijk te zijn van de steeds onzekerder wordende
overheidssubsidies, en zèlf in staat te zijn financiële tekorten op
te vangen, zodat we onze artistieke doelstellingen niet hoeven te
reduceren.

U hebt – samen met vele anderen - heel subtiel aangevoeld waar het
La Petite Bande precies om te doen is bij haar werkzaamheden; wij
hopen dan ook vanwege geestesgenoten zoals u een gerichte steun te
kunnen krijgen.

Ik wil met La Petite Bande mijn onafhankelijke koers in de
muziekwereld blijven verder varen – het gaat er mij inderdaad niet
om te ‘overleven’ door een meer “commercieel” gerichte
denkwijze. Integendeel : eventuele steun aan La Petite Bande is
totaal belangeloos en vertolkt bovenal de specifieke
humaan-artistieke gelijkgezindheid van de ondersteuner, die zich
herkent in de essentie van de Petite-Bande gedachtewereld.

Ik doe dus hierbij vrijmoedig en expliciet beroep op uw bereidheid,
ons via de Stichting “SUPPORT LA PETITE BANDE” financieel te
steunen in deze geest. Dit kan door een substantiële eenmalige gift,
of volgens een andere meer duurzame formule, die in onderling overleg
kan uitgewerkt worden (nu al staat vast dat fiscale aftrekbaarheid
niet tot de mogelijkheden behoort; eventuele publicatie van de namen
van weldoeners vanzelfsprekend wel).

Als dank voor uw ondersteuning wil ik van mijn kant graag de
gelegenheid bieden, bij speciaal voor u georganiseerde evenementen,
persoonlijk contact met mij (en de musici) te hebben.

Zo willen wij als eerste ontmoeting op zondag 6 september 2009 in de
prachtige gotische St.Maartenskerk te Kortrijk (België) een concert
met Bach-Cantaten aan de schenkers aanbieden; op de dag voordien,
zaterdag 5 september, zal ik één of meerdere uitgebreide
inleidingen geven op dit programma, waar ook gelegenheid zal zijn tot
dialoog (Nederlands, Frans , Engels en Duits als mogelijke voertaal!).

chère (cher) sympathisant(e) de La Petite Bande,

Nous pouvons nous réjouir : je vous annonce aujourd’hui que le
ministre de la Culture, Bert Anciaux, a accordé le 24 avril à La
Petite Bande une subvention annuelle de 590 000 € pour les trois
années à venir (de 2010 à 2012). L'avis préalable très négatif
et tendancieux remis début février par la Commission
d’évaluation artistique a ainsi manqué l’objectif recherché :
grâce à cette décision ministérielle, La Petite Bande n’est
provisoirement plus menacée.

L’expression de votre soutien et de votre estime - et celle de tant
d’autres avec et grâce à vous – via la pétition
"savelapetitebande" a sans nul doute fortement contribué à ce que
le ministre prenne cette décision favorable ; votre sympathie et
votre unanimité avaient déjà empli mon cœur de gratitude, et en
voilà maintenant également les précieux fruits ! Je me félicite
de cet harmonieux échange d’énergies.

Je suis extrêmement heureux que vous ayez été si nombreux à
témoigner expressément combien la qualité dans la culture vous
tenait à cœur. Il est donc très important et bénéfique que votre
appel en faveur d’une conservation respectueuse de notre patrimoine
ait rencontré une telle résonnance à cette occasion.

Mais l’avenir financier de La Petite Bande ne peut pas vraiment
être qualifié de confortable, même après l’octroi de cette
subvention :

Depuis 2003, et cela jusque 2009 inclus, La Petite Bande à
sollicité chaque année une enveloppe de 700 000 € afin de pouvoir
réaliser les projets artistiques programmés ; mais la subvention
effectivement allouée à La Petite Bande s’élevait à 600 000 €
par an (il est vrai, majorée d’un léger ajustement sur
l’inflation). Maintenant que la subvention annuelle est tombée à
590 000 €, l’écart de 100 000 € va encore se creuser, à 110
000 € par an. Un tel déficit chronique nous a par exemple
contraints, sur la seule année 2009, à annuler deux enregistrements
CD de Haydn : la "Paukenmesse" d’une part, et, d’autre part,
l’enregistrement de trois concertos, qui devait achever un projet
en cours. Pour l’avenir, nous avons d’autres projets en chantier
(par exemple l’étude et la mise en scène d’un "intermezzo"
napolitain de J. A. Hasse) qui présupposent de disposer de coquettes
réserves budgétaires ; de même, la poursuite de notre cycle, fort
apprécié, de cantates de Bach chez ACCENT pourrait être menacée.

Pour empêcher de nouvelles annulations d'activités prévues et
pouvoir mettre la dernière main à notre programmation artistique,
il est impératif de pouvoir constituer une réserve supplémentaire.

Encouragés et motivés par l’extraordinaire écho à
l’international de la pétition "savelapetitebande.com", nous avons
décidé le 6 avril 2009, après mûre réflexion, de créer une
fondation dénommée "SUPPORT LA PETITE BANDE", sise au 72 rue Vital
Decoster à B-3000 Louvain. Par le biais de cette fondation, nous
voulons développer un système qui nous permette de moins dépendre
à l’avenir des subventions des autorités, en baisse constante, et
d’être en mesure de compenser nous-mêmes les déficits financiers,
de sorte que nous ne soyons pas contraints de revoir nos objectifs
artistiques.

Nombreux sont ceux qui, tout comme vous, ont perçu très finement
les objectifs poursuivis par La Petite Bande dans ses activités ;
nous espérons par la suite également recevoir un soutien adéquat
de ce cercle d’amis.

Je veux poursuivre avec La Petite Bande mon parcours indépendant
dans le monde de la musique – en effet, je ne veux aucunement
"survivre" en adoptant une mentalité plus "commerciale". Au
contraire : tout soutien à La Petite Bande doit être entièrement
désintéressé et témoigner avant tout de la concordance
d’opinion, sur les plans humain et artistique, du financeur, qui se
reconnaît dans la philosophie Petite-Bande.

C’est donc ici avec franchise et sans détour que je fais appel à
votre générosité via notre fondation "SUPPORT LA PETITE BANDE",
que ce soit par un don substantiel unique, ou en adoptant une autre
formule sur le long terme, que nous pourrons élaborer d’un commun
accord (tout en précisant d’ores et déjà qu’elle ne pourra
donner droit à une déduction fiscale ; la publication des noms des
bienfaiteurs peut tout à fait être envisagée).

Dear Sir/Madam,

Today I, the wife of Sigiswald Kuijken (Marleen Thiers), sit down at
the computer to talk to you about La Petite Bande.

After the turbulent times of spring 2009, with the petition *"Save La
Petite Bande"* – that was signed by 21.000 people –, we were
lucky, as you may know, to keep our subventions (/almost/ completely)
for which I express once again our profound gratitude to the Minister
and to all of you who have supported us.

In the mean time, we got a better view on La Petite Bande’s overall
situation and we set up (as you also already know) a Foundation
*"Support La Petite Bande"*.

As we collected until now, only a relatively small sum I realise that
we must launch a /stronger/ call. That is why I decided – me, alone
– to stand up for Sigiswald and La Petite Bande. Because Sigiswald
himself is too modest to ask you more for his orchestra, I want to do
this for him. Already 43 years now I am his wife and I continue to
think him worthy to stand up for.

First of all I want to tell you that I still look at him with a
/great marvel/ *as a musician*, even after the many years that I’ve
played with La Petite Bande (and also with the Kuijken String
Quartet). I think he has gone a unique way and he is faithfully
continuing it. Moreover, in recent years I have seen a /deepening/ in
all that he brings us. As if a Source has been discovered and gives
now even more water than before… I think this is thanks to a
decision that he made five years ago : to pass daily half an hour /in
silence/… (also in hotel rooms, when we’re on tour!). It is
remarkable that a lot of people since then seem more deeply moved by
what he brings them. As if silence adds’ /life’/ to what he
performs now. The only thing I want to say is *that inspired by this
Source Sigiswald can still give us a lot of /Beauty/.*

And that is why I want to step into the breach for him and La Petite
Bande!

And that is why I write to you now.

I have wondered about the *good luck* that fell to our lot after the
petition: that *5.000 persons* (from the 21.000 signatories who have
signed the petition) have *registered*, /so that we now can contact
these 5.000 persons/. This is for me a gift from heaven, and we are
immensely grateful for this. Meanwhile, I hope that *you will /hear/
me and that you will /help us/*, each of you to the best of his/her
ability. And because every small bit helps, I dare to address you.

The Minister who has given us the subventions in April 2009, is not
in function anymore.

The present government recently informed /all subsidized
organisations/ that *a severe cut must be decided, and by consequence
we will receive in 2010 ca. 43.000 euro less than in 2009…*

Now we have a new Minister of Culture, and we still must get to know
her.

But to our greater disappointment, we have NO new Commission…!

Indeed, *the Commission that has given us such a negative judgment
last time, will remain on duty until 2012…* (and our application
2013-2016 will also be judged by this commission). Therefore, our
Board has asked for an open meeting with this Commission in order to
understand each other. But this Commission doesn’t want to
understand us, it wants to demolish La Petite Bande’s identity…
It wants to impose its will to La Petite Bande, and even attacks
Sigiswald in his authenticity… Of course, this Commission is not
happy that the former Minister *didn’t follow them*, but that he
*listened to you*, to the 21.000 voices of the petition *"Save La
Petite Bande"*.

It is evident that we are very *concerned* about this and that we
*must look* for help elsewhere. And I, as Sigiswald’s wife, start
today to search for this help.

However, I would like to find a nice, naïve manner to get help (no
commercial managing or sponsoring, with the often inherent
suffocating obligations .No…).

I have – as a naïve child – the dream of /*creating a chain of
faith, hope and love*/ around La Petite Bande… So that every euro
that we would receive would be /*a euro of love*/ for music… This
is the dream that I present you, to come TRUE for Sigiswald.

I want to explain a little bit more how I would like to fulfil this
dream.

First of all, I want to tell you that we plan to continue with La
Petite Bande (under Sigiswald) until the year 2017. This means
another eight beautiful years.

*By that time, La Petite Bande will be 45 years old, and that seems a
nice number.*

Therefore, we need to find finances for eight years.

/(Whether somebody else wants to continue La Petite Bande in the same
spirit as Sigiswald’s after 2017, is for later concern.)/

Our concern *now* is to establish *a financial plan* that enables us
to continue *until 2017* (this means : even if we would lose all
subventions). I present now my very simple dream, and I pray that it
could be realised.

I dream to gather a large circle of people around us, who would make
*every year IN NOVEMBER* – this is : only once a year! – a small
or big *donation to La Petite Bande.*

And I would like to chose a beautiful symbolic date for this : *22
November*, the Feast of* Saint-Cecilia*, the patroness of music.

For those amongst you, who don’t know Saint-Cecilia, please take a
look at the splendid painting “The Lamb of God” by Jan Van Eyck,
and you will find her playing on a small organ. This Saint-Cecilia is
not only the patroness of all professional musicians, but also of all
music lovers, which means : of you all, Ladies and Gentlemen.

I mused about an accurate way to present you the amount of money that
we would need, and how to realize this with 5.000 persons. And this is
my idea :

When 5.000 persons would give *10 €* a year, then we would have a
yearly sum of *50.000 €*.

When 5.000 persons would give *20 €* a year, then we would have a
yearly sum of *100.000 €*.

When 5.000 persons would give *50 €* a year, then we would have a
yearly sum of *250.000 €*.

When 5.000 persons would give *100 €* a year, then we would have a
yearly sum of *500.000 €*.

And… When 5.000 persons would give *120 €* a year, then we would
have a yearly sum of *600.000 €*. *This is : THE YEARLY BUDGET WE
NEED!!!*

Thus it becomes clear that with (a yearly) 120 € from each and
everyone of you we could get by until 2017!!!

Of course we know that 120 € per year is not possible for
everybody… But if one gives a bit less, and another a bit more, we
will reach a great amount.

So I think it is good that I write you every year around
Saint-Cecilia’s Day to ask for a donation to La Petite Bande.

I have hope and I count on your love for music, in a way that we
together can form a chain and that we together can collect the
necessary funds.

Please, take now a good look at the *bank data of "Support La Petite
Bande"* and make *already today* your first yearly gift, because
Saint-Cecilia’s Day is now around, and you might forget later…

Vandaag zet ik mij (Marleen Thiers), de vrouw van Sigiswald Kuijken,
aan de computer om u te spreken over La Petite Bande.

Na de woelige tijd in de lente van 2009, rond de petitie van *“Save
La Petite Bande”* - die 21.000 ondertekenaars kreeg - mochten we ons
(zoals u weet) gelukkig achten om onze subsidies (/bijna/ volledig) te
kunnen behouden, waarvoor nog eens dank aan de Minister en aan u allen
die ons steunden.

Ondertussen hebben we een duidelijker zicht gekregen op de hele
situatie van La Petite Bande en hebben we (zoals u ook reeds weet)
een *Stichting “Support La Petite Bande”* opgestart.

Omdat we daar echter nu nog maar een kleine som geld op konden
verzamelen beseffen wij dat we een /sterkere/ oproep moeten lanceren
daarvoor. En zo besloot ik om zelf - geheel alleen - op te komen voor
Sigiswald en voor La Petite Bande. Daar Sigiswald zélf eigenlijk te
bescheiden is om aan u meer te durven vragen voor zijn orkest, wil ik
het dus in zijn plaats doen. Sinds 43 jaar ben ik zijn vrouw en ik
blijf het de moeite vinden om voor hem door het vuur te gaan !

Op de allereerste plaats wil ik u vertellen dat ik na zoveel jaren
met Sigiswald meegespeeld te hebben in La Petite Bande (en ook in het
Kuijken Strijkkwartet) nog steeds met een even grote /verwondering/
kijk naar hem *als muzikant*. Ik vind dat hij een unieke weg gegaan
is en dat hij die nog steeds getrouw verder gaat. Méér nog, de
laatste jaren zie ik /een verdieping/ in alles wat hij ons brengt.
Alsof er een Bron aangeboord geworden is die nu nog meer water geeft
dan voordien… Dit heeft hij te danken (denk ik) aan een beslissing
die hij 5 jaar geleden nam : namelijk om elke dag een half uur /in
stilte/ door te brengen… (ook in een hotelkamer, als wij op tournee
zijn !). Het is opmerkelijk dat zeer veel mensen sindsdien nog meer en
dieper geroerd worden door wat hij hen brengt. Alsof stilte
/‘leven’/ toevoegt aan wat hij nu doet. Het enige wat ik daarmee
wil zeggen is : *dat Sigiswald vanuit dié Bron nog veel /Schoonheid/
in petto heeft om ons uit te delen !*

En dat ik dààrom in de bres wil springen voor hem en voor La Petite
Bande !

En dat ik u dààrom nu schrijf.

Ik heb veel nagedacht over *het geluk* dat ons te beurt viel na de
petitie, namelijk : dat *5.000 mensen* (van de 21.000 die de petitie
tekenden) zich /*lieten registreren*/ /zodat wij nu déze 5.000
mensen kunnen bereiken/. Ik denk dat dit een geschenk is uit de
hemel, en wij zijn er ontzettend dankbaar voor. Daarbij hoop ik *dat
u mij zult /horen/ en dat u ons zult /helpen/*, elk naar eigen
vermogen. Omdat *vele kleintjes een groot* kunnen maken, durf ik u
hierover aan te spreken.

De Minister die ons de subsidie toekende in april 2009 is nu geen
Minister meer.

En de regering van nu liet onlangs /aan alle ensembles die subsidies
toegekend gekregen hadden/ weten *dat ze serieus moeten besparen en
dat we bijgevolg in 2010 ongeveer 43.000 € minder zullen krijgen
dan wat we in 2009 kregen...*

We hebben nu een nieuwe Minister van cultuur die we nog moeten leren
kennen.

Maar we hebben tot onze grote spijt géén nieuwe Commissie !...

Inderdaad, *de Commissie die ons de vorige keer zo negatief
beoordeelde, blijft dezelfde tot in 2012…* (En onze
subsidie-aanvraag 2013-2016 zal dus ook door deze commissie
beoordeeld worden). Onze Raad van Bestuur ging daarom een open
gesprek aan met deze Commissie om te zien hoe we elkaar beter zouden
kunnen begrijpen. Maar de Commissie wil ons niet begrijpen, zij wil
de eigenheid van La Petite Bande opheffen… Zij wil *hààr* wil aan
La Petite Bande opleggen, en valt Sigiswald direct aan in zijn
authenticiteit... Deze Commisie is natuurlijk ook niet blij dat de
vorige Minister *niet naar hén luisterde*, maar *wel naar u
luisterde*, naar de 21.000 stemmen van de petitie “Save La Petite
bande”.

Het is dus begrijpelijk dat wij daarover *ongerust zijn* en dat we
elders hulp *moéten* gaan zoeken. En ik - als vrouw van Sigiswald
Kuijken - begin vandaag om die hulp te zoeken.

Ik wil echter een sympathieke, naïeve manier kiezen om hulp te
krijgen. (Geen commerciële managing of sponsoring, naar wiens pijpen
men dan vaak moet dansen. Neen...)

Ik droom ervan om - kinderlijk naïef - een soort *ketting te
creëren van geloof, hoop en liefde* rond La Petite Bande… Zodat
élke euro die we zouden krijgen *een euro van liefde* zou zijn voor
de muziek… Deze droom bied ik u aan om voor Sigiswald WAAR te
maken.

Graag geef ik nu hierbij wat meer uitleg over hoe ik deze droom zou
willen uitwerken.

Eerst en vooral wil ik u zeggen dat wij denken door te gaan met La
Petite Bande (onder Sigiswald zijn directie) tot in het jaar 2017.
Dat zijn dus nog 8 mooie jaren.

*Dan zal La Petite Bande 45 jaar oud zijn, en dat lijkt ons een mooi
cijfer.*

We moeten dus alle financiën vinden voor 8 jaar.

/(Of er dan nadien iemand anders zich geroepen zou voelen om La
Petite Bande - in dezelfde geest als die van Sigiswald - verder te
zetten is een zorg voor later. )/

Onze zorg is *nu* om *een financieel plan* uit te bouwen om *tot in
2017* te kunnen blijven verder werken (dus ook als we alle subsidie
zouden verliezen). Ik presenteer u hierbij mijn zéér eenvoudige
droom, en ik bid dat deze werkelijkheid zou mogen worden.

Ik droom ervan om een grote kring van mensen rondom ons te verzamelen
die *elk jaar IN NOVEMBER* – slechts éénmaal per jaar dus ! - een
kleine of een grote *gift doen voor la Petite Bande.*

En daarvoor wil ik een mooie symbolische datum uitkiezen, rond
dewelke de betalingen zouden kunnen gebeuren. En ik dacht aan de
datum van *22 november*. Dat is namelijk de feestdag van de *Heilige
Cecilia*, patrones van de muziek.

Voor wie de H. Cecilia niet kent, zoek even het prachtige schilderij
van “Het Lam Gods” van Jan van Eyck op en u zult haar zien,
afgebeeld spelend op een orgeltje. Deze Heilige Cecilia is niet
alleen de patrones van de beroepsmuzikanten, maar evenzeer van alle
muziekminnenden, dus ook van u allen, Dames en Heren.

Ik heb nagedacht hoe ik u concreet een beeld kan geven van hoeveel
geld we nodig zouden hebben en hoe we dit met z’n 5.000 mensen
zouden kunnen bereiken.

Ziehier mijn idee :

Als 5.000 mensen *10 €* zouden geven per jaar, dan zouden we meteen
aan de som van *50.000 €* zitten per jaar.

Als 5.000 mensen *20 €* zouden geven per jaar, dan zouden we al aan
de som van *100.000 €* zitten per jaar.

Als 5.000 mensen *50 €* zouden geven per jaar, dan zouden we aan de
mooie som van *250.000 €* zitten per jaar.

Als 5.000 mensen echter *100 €* zouden geven per jaar, dan zouden
we al aan de sublieme som van *500.000 €* per jaar zitten.

En... Als 5.000 mensen *120 €* zouden geven per jaar, dan zouden we
aan de vereiste *600.000 €* per jaar zitten. Dat betekent : *DE SOM
DIE WE PER JAAR NODIG HEBBEN !!!!!*

Het is dus duidelijk dat we met 120 € van elk van u (elk jaar)
zouden kunnen rondkomen tot in 2017 !!!

Natuurlijk weten wij ook dat 120 € per jaar niet voor iedereen
mogelijk zal zijn... Maar als de een wat minder geeft, en de ander
wat meer, dan geraken we zeker aan een mooi getal.

Daarom vind ik het goed als ik jullie elk jaar opnieuw zou
aanschrijven om een gift te vragen voor La Petite Bande rond het
feest van de heilige Cecilia !

Ik hoop en ik reken op uw liefde voor de muziek, zodat we samen een
ketting kunnen vormen en dat we de nodige sommen geld kunnen bijeen
kunnen sparen.

Neem nu dus gauw de *Bank gegevens van “SUPPORT LA PETITE BANDE”*
op en doe uw eerste jaarlijkse storting *vandaag nog*, want Sint
Cecilia’s feest is nu al, en anders vergeet u het morgen misschien
nog...

Message de Sigiswald Kuijken, directeur artistique de La Petite Bande

Madame, Monsieur,

Aujourd’hui, c’est moi (Marleen Thiers), la femme de Sigiswald,
qui vous adresse depuis mon ordinateur au sujet de La Petite Bande.

Après la période tumultueuse du printemps 2009, autour de la
pétition *« Save La Petite Bande »* - qui a reçu 21.000
signataires -, nous étions heureux (comme vous le savez) de pouvoir
garder nos subventions ( presqu’ en totalité). Encore un grand
merci au Ministre et à vous tous qui nous aviez soutenus.

Entre temps, nous avons une meilleure idée de la situation de La
Petite Bande, et nous avons créé (comme vous le savez également)
une Fondation *« Support La Petite Bande »*.

Jusqu’à présent, nous n’avons pu y rassembler qu’une petite
somme, et nous nous rendons compte qu’on doit lancer un appel /plus
fort/. C’est ainsi que moi seule, j’ai décidé de me manifester
pour Sigiswald et pour La Petite Bande. Sigiswald est en fait trop
modeste pour demander plus, et c’est pourquoi que je le ferai à sa
place. Depuis 43 années, je suis sa femme et je reste convaincue
qu’il vaut la peine de monter sur les barricades pour lui !

En tout premier lieu, je voudrais vous dire qu’après tant
d’années que j’ai joué dans La Petite Bande (et aussi dans le
Quatuor à Cordes Kuijken), je regarde encore toujours avec un grand
émerveillement Sigiswald *comme musicien*. Je trouve qu’il a suivi
un parcours unique, et qu’il le suit encore toujours aussi
fidèlement. En outre, les dernières années, je remarque un
approfondissement dans tout ce qu’il nous offre. Comme si une
Source a été forée, qui donne maintenant encore plus
qu’auparavant… Je crois que ceci est dû à une décision que
Sigiswald a prise, il y a cinq ans : de passer chaque jour une demie
heure /en silence/… (aussi dans une chambre d’hôtel, quand on
est en tournée !). C’est remarquable que depuis lors, beaucoup de
gens sont plus, et plus profondément, émus par ce qu’il apporte.
Comme si le silence ajoute « /de la vie/ » à ce qu’il fait. Ce
que je veux dire, est : *Sigiswald a encore tant de /Beauté/ de
cette Source à partager avec nous !*

Et c’est pourquoi que je veux prendre la défense pour lui et pour
La Petite Bande !

Et c’est pourquoi que je vous écris maintenant.

J’ai beaucoup réfléchi sur *le bonheur* qu’on a reçu après la
pétition, à savoir : que *5.000 personnes* (des 21.000 signataires)
se sont /*registrées* afin qu’on puisse les contacter maintenant./
Je pense que c’est un cadeau du ciel, et nous en sommes très
reconnaissants. En plus, j’espère *que vous m’/écouteriez/ et
que vous pourriez nous /aider/*, chacun selon ses propres moyens. Et
dans une situation où plusieurs peu puisse faire un beaucoup,
j’ose vous écrire.

Le Ministre qui nous a accordé les subventions en avril 2009,
n’est plus en fonction.

Et le gouvernement actuel vient d’annoncer à toutes les
organisations subventionnées qu’*une sérieuse économie devra
être faite et par conséquence, nous recevrons en 2010 à peu près
43.000 euros de moins qu’en 2009…*

Il y a un nouveau Ministre de la Culture ; on nous faudra encore un
peu de temps pour la connaître.

Mais, à notre grand regret, nous n’avons pas une nouvelle
Commission…

En effet, *la Commission qui nous a donné un avis tellement négatif
autrefois, restera en fonction jusqu’au 2012…* (et par
conséquence, elle devra de nouveau mettre un avis sur notre
application 2013-2016). Notre Conseil d’Administration a entamé
une conversation ouverte avec cette Commission afin de trouver un
langage commun pour mieux se comprendre. Mais cette Commission ne
veut pas nous compendre, elle veut démolir l’identité de La
Petite Bande… Elle veut forcer *sa* volonté à La Petite Bande, et
elle attaque directement l’authenticité de Sigiswald…
Naturellement, cette Commission n’est pas heureuse que l’ancien
Ministre *ne l’a pas écoutée*, et que par contre, *il vous a
/bien/ écoutés* : vous, les 21.000 voix de la pétition « Save La
Petite Bande ».

Vous comprenez que nous sommes *très inquiets* et que nous sommes
*obligés* de chercher de l’aide ailleurs. Et c’est moi, la femme
de Sigiswald Kuijken, qui commence aujourd’hui à chercher cette
aide.

Mais je voudrais choisir un moyen sympathique, même naïf, pour
trouver cette aide (en aucun cas, du politique commercial ou du
sponsoring, avec trop souvent des obligations suffocantes. Non…)

Je rêve – naïvement enfantine – de *créer une chaîne de foi,
d’espoir et d’amour* autour de La Petite Bande… Pour que chaque
euro qu’on recevra, soit *un euro d’amour* pour la musique… Je
vous offre cette rêve, pour qu’elle puisse se réaliser pour
Sigiswald.

Comment voudrais-je réaliser cette rêve ?

Tout d’abord, je voudrais vous dire qu’on pense pouvoir continuer
avec La Petite Bande (sous la direction de Sigiswald) jusqu’en 2017.
Encore une période de huit belles années.

*A ce moment, La Petite Bande aura 45 ans, un bel âge selon nous…*

Donc, il nous faut trouver les finances pour huit années.

/(La question si quelqu’un est appelé pour continuer La Petite
Bande après 2017 dans l’esprit de Sigiswald, est à voir plus
tard.)/

La question d’aujourd’hui est d’établir un plan financier pour
qu’on puisse continuer à travailler jusqu’en 2017 (même si on
perd toute subvention). Je vous présente ma rêve toute simple, et
je prie qu’elle puisse se réaliser.

Je rêve de rassembler un grand cercle de personnes autour de nous,
qui feront chaque année *EN NOVEMBRE* (donc, une fois par an) un
petit ou un grand *don pour La Petite Bande.*

Et je voudrais choisir une belle date symbolique, à laquelle ces
dons pourraient être faits, à savoir *le 22 novembre*, la Fête de
Sainte Cécile, patronne de la musique.

Pour ceux qui ne connaissent pas Sainte Cécile, regardez «
L’Agneau Mystique », ce tableau magnifique de Jan Van Eyck, et
vous la trouverez facilement : c’est elle qui joue le petit orgue.
Cette Sainte Cécile n’est pas seulement la patronne des musiciens
professionnels ; elle l’est également de chaque mélomane, donc de
vous tous, mesdames et messieurs !

Comment vous présenter *clairement* combien d’argent nous avons
besoin et comment on pourrait le réaliser avec 5.000 personnes ?

Voici mon idée :

Si 5.000 personnes donnent *10 €* par an, on aura une somme
annuelle de *50.000 €*.

Si 5.000 personnes donnent *20 €* par an, on aura une somme
annuelle de *100.000 €*.

Si 5.000 personnes donnent *50 €* par an, on aura une somme
annuelle de *250.000 €*.

Si 5.000 personnes donnent *100 €* par an, on aura une somme
annuelle de *500.000 €*.

Et donc… Si 5.000 personnes donnent *120 €* par an, on aura une
somme annuelle de *600.000 €*, c’est-à-dire : *LE BUDGET ANNUEL
DONT ON A BESOIN !!!*

Clairement, avec 120 € de chacun d’entre vous, on pourrait
continuer jusqu’en 2017 !!!

On se rend naturellement bien compte qu’il ne le soit pas possible
pour chacun d’entre vous… Mais si l’un donne un peu moins, et
si l’autre donne un peu plus…, on arrivera sans doute à une
belle somme.

C’est pourquoi que je me propose de vous écrire chaque année
autour de la Fête de Sainte Cécile pour vous demander un don pour
La Petite Bande !

J’espère et je compte sur votre amour pour la musique, que cette
chaîne puisse se réaliser ensemble, et qu’on puisse rassembler
les fonds nécessaires.
