Default Magnus Lindberg

Just one of the many contemporary composers who I think is wonderful.

This is stunning and I am going to order the CD ASAP!

Some of the melodic language/modality reminds me of the Basant raga, examples of which I posted a while ago. I can also spot traces of the influence of jazz, which, to its eternal grooviness, is integrated with the aforesaid modality. Also, check out those crazy clarinet sounds! And check out 7:00 onwards in the second part (which also reappears later). Sublime!

Sublime, indeed! Magnus Lindberg dedicated his violin concerto to Lisa Batiashvili, I had the chance to listen to it live. Certainly a concerto which will make its place in the repertoire. Slim orchestrated (the critics loved to see parallels to the Mozart concerti due to its orchestration, but I failed to see any) and very accessible. I really like it. Can't say anything about Lindberg though, all I know besides the concerto is his string quartet, where I failed to find access to musically. But the clarinet concerto certainly whets appetite for more.

The post-Sibelius music in Finland is absolutely amazing, so many stunning composers, I'd love to know more about the origin of this creative productivity! Is it the musical education there, the traditions?

(The violin concerto btw. is recorded by Lisa Batiashvili together with the Sibelius concerto. One of the best interpretations of the last years in my opinion. Well worth to buy this combination!)

Thanks for the recommendation. That one always looked rather appealing.
