Time to go to Russia

Here's the purchasing power of the US$ to the rouble over the last few months:

Roubles to the US Dollar

Of course, you have to bear in mind that in winter-time in Siberia a kilo of imported plums or tomatoes costs a king's ransom in any currency

The costs of life's essentials in Moscow:

Bolshoi Theatre, Amphitheatre Seats - R1560

Helikon Opera, best seats - R800, average seats R450

Bottle of local champagne (dry, sekt, 0.75l) - R90

Red Caviar, smallish jar (150g) - R200

One ride on the Moscow Metro - R15 (if bought in a carnet of 10)

My heating bill in my apartment, for one month - R290

WAIT, I read it backwards. (blame it on the cold.) Ok, it's still not time to go to Europe. Unless one is already here.

It depends what you are going to Europe for, and what you are leaving behind, I guess

Life is not judged on price alone

I use this currency converter for work

http://www.oanda.com/convert/classic

because it easily gives you historical rates (a common mistake peole make is to say in a news story, for example: 'x company bought y company in January 2001 for $4.56m' and then convert that into sterling at the current rate, rather than the rate at the time).

The historic currency converter is also useful for reminiscing about the days when a dollar would get you 48p.

Yeah, I almost bought Texas. I was going to make them eat muesli for breakfast and do yoga (when not practising the recorder or getting in touch with their inner child).
