Default Jackson comeback

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ccXkra_ZAQQ&feature=related"]YouTube - This is It - Michael Jackson Announces His Final Concert in London[/ame]

Well - he's back. At least parts of him. A little tour, some money, a tad less debtes, but full stadiums. What I really don't get is, what people fascinates when it comes to Jackson. And I understand in a way, why people still go to Britney Spears concerts, it's music they grew up with, be it as dreadfull as it is.

But Jackson? Thriller is a cool song, no doubt, but even if the Thriller album is the most frequently sold album ever, there's so much crap on it, it's just an average 80's album. I mean it can hardly put him into the league of super stars like the Stones when it comes to popularity.

So - what fascinates people? So many people consider him a legend or even an innovative icon. This comeback is a bit like the Thriller video, just the other way around: a zombie pops up in the streets, graves open, normal people climb out and follow him.

Where does this Jackson hype come from?

I think part of it is that old geezers like me remember him when he was with that Jackson Five and kind of saw him grow up...

When Michael was cool

While I'm analyzing pop songs today ([ame="http://brightcecilia.com/forum/showpost.php?p=15581&postcount=1"]http://brightcecilia.com/forum/showpost.php?p=15581&postcount=1[/ame]), let me just say, as a harpischordist, how excited I am about the great baroque BASS lines in these Jackson Five classics.

the first part of chorus in "I want you back" is totally a descending third sequence.

I was in junior high school at the time those songs were popular and the thing I remember most about them was that whenever either one of those songs would start everyone would head for the dance floor!!!

I'm sure Mr Jackson's comeback will be just as welcome in Old Folks Homes. Although they might wonder who the white guy is.

When my father was in a nursing home a few years ago, I said to one of the young black attendants "Just think, in 40 years they'll be playing rap music in the nursing homes". (We had some big band music playing at the time).
