Default thx

thx for the nice welcome. Micrologus "recruted" me to post in here. Sorry in advance for my english, i live near Vienna in Austria and usually i post in bagpipe - related german forums. So here (beside me only reading at chiff and fipple) is my premiere of forums in English.

I'm more into medieval Instruments and also their Makers and how they did their job, but also interested in the music and lyric of the period, especially the 15th century.

Most of the music widely known as "medieval" dates earlier, so i think collecting all the information about music is a good way to find out that there is much more in that theme than gregorian chants, the cantigas de santa maria and the codex manesse

Very glad to meet you, Stephen. And don't worry about your English. It is 1000 times better than my German.

But I would love to know what chiff and fipple are. Are they like chish and fips?

it's an american forum (www.chiffandfipple.org) dedicated to irish folk music. It started to be for tin whistle players but soon was raided by uilleann pipers and flute players.

It's a huge information source and a good place to boast 30 Minutes after you took your new set of 10000 EUR - Pipes out of the box or to brag about your new renaissance flute from ebay, but there's also some good information about caring for Instruments and a few good talks about irish folk music and its history.

I have to say, Irish folk is not my favourite music, i just can't remember the tunes, it's mostly played just to show off how fast one can play an uninteresting stakkato-like piece of low quality music. Sounds like a sewing machine then....but i like the instruments they use......but anyway, i like all acoustic instruments, so that's not a big pro....

so fish and chips describes it fine
