Default New Schumann group being created

I've just created a group that will be dedicated to the life and music of Robert and Clara Schumann. Right now it's empty but my wife is working this weekend so I'll have time to start filling it with content. When it's ready, I'll post back here.

Schumann Lieder is a sub-class of Schumann.

Yay! Great. I have joined. My knowledge of Schumann is far from encyclopaedic but he is wonderful.

This will be especially good for me as I don't think I have a single Schumann recording. I've heard him on the radio but what I know about him and his work could be written on the head of a pin in very large letters.

I was listening to Mondnacht - Liederkreis no 5 - on my way in to work. Absolutely beautiful. If Dichterliebe makes you weep, so will this.

I am disturbed to learn, however, that it has been recorded by Barbra Streisand.

Yes, had to rush out today and didn't have a chance to say how much I liked it.

It's been good because I had a music teacher who really put me off Haydn by calling him Papa Haydn all the time and playing his really most twiddly short pieces that were probably commissioned as things to be played behind the tinkle of tea cups at a maiden aunt's musical soiree.

Some of his string quartets are wonderful. Very abstract, 'music made of music' kind of thing. He almost always manages to defy expectation, and does it with great wit.
