I couldn't find Richter on youtube for the whole thing, but I shall definitely buy a CD of the whole shebang.
How could I have allowed myself not to own any Schumann before? I'm an ignoramus regarding his best interpreters. |

If you're looking for piano music, maybe I can recommend you Elisso Wirssaladze, a Schumann specialist and great pianist.

This post is partially to Despina because I had told her that I didn't have a whole lot of Schumann. I have more Schumann than I originally thought because I have some from collections. I think that Richter set I have has some Schumann on it and various sets like that. Michaelangeli(sp) has some Schumann I think. One I forgot I had was:

Decisions, decisions...there's an Alfred Brendel but also a Rubinstein but I'm also thinking of a Clifford Curzon that throws in some Schubert too......aaargh!

I love Brendel as performer of Beethoven and Rubenstein as performer of Chopin.
Didn't you find any Elisso Wirssaladze? She is the Schumann specialist! |

I was so overwhelmed by the choice I hadn't got as far as the W, alphabetically speaking.

Microlagus sent me a PM with a link to some really interesting Elisso Wirssaladze CDs. I have however, for really sentimental reasons decided to go for the Brendel. My Grandfather, who I adored, was a big Brendel fan and did me lots of Brendel cassette tapes from his record collection which are now unplayable. So, Alfred Brendel it is for the Fantasie in C opus 17.
I am however going to put Elisso Wirssaladze on the rest of my Schumann wish-list. |
