A duck billed rattypus ate my day off.
Philidor was heroic about crawling into dark corners looking for holes and polyfilling them up. Still, at least we got rid of a lot of clutter so it was time well spent - if not how I had intended to spend it.

Agh--sorry about your uninvited guest! When I used to live in an industrial-area loft in Williamsburg (Brooklyn), I'd see rats running all over the streets at night. We're talking whole FAMILIES of rats at once-- a big mama and several little ones darting in and around trashbags, haha! Then, I started to notice more feral cats around... lo and behold, no more rats. It really was a natural and humane solution.

However, the New York City Feral Cat Initiative does a wonderful job of providing "trap neuter and return" services to prevent needless suffering. If you're looking for something meaningful to do the next time you're on holiday in New York, take their Certified TNR Caretaker Class for the equivalent of ten pounds. Another fun, inexpensive, and worthwhile option is the First Aid for Cats and Dogs class at the Red Cross in Manhattan. Good stuff!
