The new version is available on the Mozilla website. I've decided to switch to FF because in my own small tests with the Release Candidate it consistently uses less memory than IE8.

Unfortunately I can't move onto FF 3.5 yet since it's telling me that most of the add-ons/extensions which I use aren't compatible yet. This always happens with new versions of FF, the add-on developers lag behind. I use quite a few add-ons, some of which are essential eg NoScript, and I certainly wouldn't want to run FF without them.

I think they've upgraded NoScript. I use Ad-Block Plus and it is working ok. Check out this link:

I just installed NoScript and it's running A-OK.

Thanks for that, you're right, NoScript is OK with FF 3.5, also Adblock Plus. However I'm still missing Scrapbook, which I use almost daily, plus a few others so I'll leave it for a bit till they get updated.

I've got a feeling that the developer has abandoned Scrapbook as it hasn't been updated since 11/08. However I have discovered something called Scrapbook+ so looks like someone else has taken over the project. I've got a lot of data saved in Scrapbook which, although it is still accessible without the extension, cannot be simply viewed

I've replaced Scrapbook with Scrapbook+ which seems to work fine - it's a great way of organising and viewing webpages offline.
So there are now only a couple of other add-ons which won't work on 3.5: Sage (which I haven't used for some time though it's a useful RSS reader) Smiley Xtra (which I can definitely live without )So I've taken the plunge and updated to 3.5. No problems so far. I might be able to get Sage and Smiley Xtra working by manually editing the max version number in the install file. |
