After your wonderful greeting in Welcome, I'm not reluctant to post on this thread now.
Rock/Pop super-favorites: Meat Loaf, Fleetwood Mac, U2 Others I like: Some Springsteen, Heart, Eagles, Don Henley, Doobie Brothers (Michael McDonald in a class by himself), Phil Collins, some Billy Joel, Elton John Best voices in rock/pop: Meat Loaf, Josh Groban, Michael Buble, Anne Wilson, Toni Braxton, Annie Lennox, Jennifer Hudson (extraordinary in DreamGirls), Barbra Streisand, George Michael, Mariah Carey (with less embellishment), some Aretha Franklin Other areas/eras: Sinatra, Dean Martin, Rick Nelson, ballads of Elvis; Ella, Rosemary Clooney, Bing, My parents played Big Band music, along with jazz and blues, so am familiar with a lot of those groups and performers. I know I have a lot missing; will fill in with reminders and questions. |

I like old Heart, Dreamboat Annie was a great album, but 80s Heart I simply detest.
![]() Don Henleys first solo album was good, Sunset Grill has such an awesome synth solo. Billy Joel lost me with "Still rock n roll to me" Meatloaf's Bat out of Hell was great. I wasn't much impressed with anything after that. Dean Martin is awesome, along with Bing and Rosemary Clooney. Some of what I like are: Rock/pop Pink Floyd, Led Zepplin, Black Sabbath, Paul Simon, Ricky Lee Jones, Peter Gabriel Jazz Roy Hargrove, Oscar Peterson, Patricia Barber, Miles Davis I find myself also listing to techno and downtempo stuff a lot lately too. |

![]() I misunderstod spotty's original post. I thought he was talking about orchestral/chamber music that isn't classical! Durrrr! ![]() I don't listen so much to non classical music these days but the things I still have on my mp3 player include Belle & Sebastian, Gillian Welch, Led Zeppelin, Badly Drawn Boy, Pop Levi, Morrissey, Liz Phair, Kristin Hersh, the Dandy Warhols, Moby and, I must confess, Robyn. That's off the top of my head. I'll have to add to the list when I have more time.

I knew I forgot something important - Led Zeppelin!! I do hope they do some kind of tour, and come to the US - that was unreal that they had so many ticket requests that there had to be a lottery to give out the tickets! That may happen over here, too.
I saw Robert Plant in solo a few years ago; still has one of the most versatile voices in rock. And he's showing his hard-rock living age rather visibly, as he continues to "listen to a different drummer." When Simon and Garfunkle went on a nostalgia tour a few years ago, I saw them at Madison Square Garden. The place was sold out to the rafters, and it was just unreal - both voices were just great, glorious and dead-on in tune and intonation - you never knew they were around 60, especially Art Garfunkle. It was an unforgetable night. I know that privately, a lot of Meat's fans will say that Bat 1 is the most listened-to, complete album of his collection, and Bat 2 and Bat 3 had certain good selections - i.e. his Grammy winner from Bat 2 - Anything For Love. I've seen him live a number of times since 2005 (don't know why I waited so long), and he hit the artistic perfection performance that artists dream of but rarely hit on July 20, 2007 at Madison Square Garden. Every song he sang that night was like he could ever sing again - no matter what Bat album it came from, and the covers he did at the end. His selections that night sounded like never before. With Billy Joel, it is just certain songs of his that I like, same as you, Spotty. One of my favorite movies of all time is "Rio Bravo" with John Wayne, Dean Martin and Rick Nelson. The movie has great acting, drama and comedy, by Dean Martin, and singing by Rick Nelson and Martin; no romantic ballad per se, but the songs showed that voice, both their voices actually, to great advantage. |

Hi there! I have the Plant/Krauss album, "Raising Sand", and it is great. Robyn's album is a lot better than I expected too...
