Have recently been listening to Panic - what fabulous piece! It's not as difficult as a fair amount of B's music, has a clearly defined harmonic language, and I really admire the ecstatic, primeval qualities - especially the climax near the end, which is Coltrane through and through! (And indeed features a deliberately jazzy trumpet figure at said climax.)

I don't own a recording of Panic, which is a damn shame - but the Coltrane influence, particularly 'Ascension', is only too discernible.

Funny you say that, because I made the same point several months ago:

You could look for a second-hand recording of Panic on amazon... I know it's annoying that it's not in production any more.

There is actually a version on iTunes which I've been pondering over for a while.. but it's 8 quid and comes with the Earth Dances which I already have.

It's interesting that we both noticed the 'Ascension' influence - it's also fascinating how similar results can be achieved in so utterly different ways.

Oh you know, great minds and all (in both cases as well).
