Default Heat Wave

It is HOT in this eastern half of the U.S.

Florida is probably the coolest part... heh. Heat indices are over 100 [37 C] from New Orleans up to Chicago. Even NYC is in a heat advisory, even though it "only" feels like 90 there. The Weather Channel thinks the east coast of Virginia will get to be over 105 air temperature tomorrow.
Glad I'm not there!

A mere bagatelle.

On Thursday, The Weather Channel app on my iPhone had 100 degrees F and a humidity of 60%, for a healthy heat index of 129 F (54 C, if you’re scoring at home). I don’t know how accurate that was, but it was kind of warm.

Now in AD, it’s 7:40 AM and the same app puts us at 95 F with 56% humidity for a paltry heat index of 109 F (43 C).

Might have to break out the woolens if this continues.

My air conditioner was installed just as the heat wave began wearing off where I live.

Today wasn't bad in terms of temperature (the upper 70s/low 80s) but the humidity was unbearable. Working in my studio I was just drenched and the Penderecki I was playing (which I usually love) just irritated the hell out of me until I had to yank it out and put on some Muddy Waters followed by Byzantine/Arabic chant (perfect, it seems, for the heat). I now hear another heat wave is on the way and well be soon back in the 90s.

The AC gave out in my van just as the heat wave was starting. I'm hoping to have it fixed before Indian summer.

Luckily, we took a trip to Scotland at the peak of the New England humidity. We were enjoying beautiful sunny weather there while it was sweltering in Massachusetts.

I'm in California and yes, it's hot! Not 100 degrees yet but it's in the high 80s to mid 90s in the day and at night it's in the low 70s. And if you drive about an hour from where I live, it's about 102 in the daytime there! Good luck with the heat!

We are just coming down from another heat wave... temperatures in the 90s for most of the week with high humidity... and I've just started back to work teaching. Nothing like 30 13-year-olds in a classroom already 90 degrees+. Its been a virtual sauna to the point that each night I go home and need a nap just to recover. On the positive side I'm probably losing weight.

Cool air is set to come in tonight... and Hurricane Earl will probably push rain across the area for the next several days.
