Default Finally, time to stop lurking and start posting!

Hello folks

I've been lurking for a while (and following Bright Cecilia updates on twitter) so I thought I would finally get round to posting.

My real name is Nick, I'm a tenor (as the username suggests) based in Birmingham (UK), singing mainly in Anglican church choirs, so my main interest is choral music. I do odd bits of solo work too. I have quite wide ranging tastes in instrumental and orchestral music, and I listen to lots of other stuff too (anyone else on here like Drum and Bass?!). I'm a civil servant in my proper job.

Looking forward to chatting to you all.

Hey Nick

Nice to meet you.

Good luck with that mate. I hope you're cemented into a policy unit somewhere, close to the politicians, so they'll leave you alone in the coming storm.

Cheers... all is still a bit up in the air, but I am trying to stay optimistic. Heck, I might even end up singing for my living, I've been wondering if I can do it for years so I might well get forced to take the plunge!

Hi DecTenor1 & welcome to the forum.

Do you sing any opera & do you have a favourite composer?

(I work for the LEA so I think my job's on the line too.)

To be honest - I don't really sing a lot of opera, and as ridiculous as it may seem, it's a bit of a blind spot for me - I've never really been drawn to it. Having said that, I love Baroque opera, Monteverdi "L'incoronazione di Poppea" and Handel "Acis and Galatea" especially. I'm also really partial to the Britten operas, particularly "Peter Grimes" and "A Midsummer Night's Dream".

Hi from a fellow tenor.

I would love to sing for a living but your right it being a 'jump'. Then there is the stability of income from a regular job like that which you are now in, but your right with the current cuts in public services - plan what to do if the worsed happens.

I am just hoping that the current lot see sense and rethink this.

(I'm in public service also, but not yet under threat)
