Default Josef Gabriel Rheinberger

While searching by nationality on IMSLP, I clicked on "Liechtensteinian Composers" just for fun. Little did I realize that the sole composer in that category was actually quite talented. Why is he little-known? He had low self-confidence, and did not actively seek publicity. Plus, he was relatively conservative for a Late Romantic composer. Most of his works were for organ, but he did branch out occasionally. This is a movement of his Organ Sonata No. 11, arranged for string orchestra. I think it's a lovely recording, but Julian Lloyd Webber puts in a couple nasty slides.

Sorry, I suck at embedding Youtube videos. Scratch that; it worked!

I'll try to post a more detailed biography in the information section later. I'm trying not to rip off Wikipedia too badly. Luckily, I've found a few resources other than Wikipedia to work from.

Default Rheinberger's Piano Duets

I'm an unashamed fan of his four-hand piano music -- I haven't played it all yet, but it definitely has its moments.

There are at least two major works: 1) a 4-movt Sonata in C minor, and 2) the Praeludium, Intermezzo and Fugue in E-flat minor, a kind of 3-movt "suite."

Love his organ music too --both can be great fun to play. )

Did not know Rheinberger was "unknown".
Love the recording of his Organ Concerto nr. 1 in F Op. 127 on the organ of the Royal Albert Hall (conductor Jahja Ling, orchestra Royal Philharmonic)
