Default Italian Baroque Music

The more I listen to Italian Baroque Music, the lower Bach is rated in my list of favorite composers.

Default Italian Baroque Music

Thank you for the beautiful examples. Italian Baroque is at the top of my favorites list!

Are you familiar with Alessandro Stradella (1639-1682)?

I have links to samples of his music and more information on my website:

No, I'm not familiar with Alessandro Stradella.

I clicked on the link on your website in the hope to hear the violin sonata, but I was disappointed. It's not a violin sonata by Stradella but by Elisabeth-Claude Jacquet de la Guerre.

But finaly I found this (also on your website)

Nothing undermines Bach in my opinion... certainly not the Italian Baroque composers... although I do quite like much of their work. I just recently got this disc:

The music is absolutely marvelously thought out and performed and the packaging is quite special. Highly recommended!

Thanks for looking at my site and I apologize for the link which as you so rightly noted is not a Stradella composition. I will be fixing asap--probably linking to a Stradella Sinfonia for violin & cello.

I have fixed the link on the front page of my website to go to a Youtube video of an absolutely stunning performance of Stradella's Sinfonia A Tre D Moll:

There are 2 more Stradella music links on: http://www.astradellasojourn.com/links.html
and many more on Youtube

Here are some suggested CDs of Alessandro Stradella compositions:

French Baroque is also great. And I mean the more obscure French Baroque masters, not just the commonly heard-of Rameau, Couperin, and Leclair. Hotteterre, Philidor, and Marais are just a few of the many such composers I'd recommend. Warning: French Baroque is a totally different world from Italian and German Baroque, and quite a tangle to learn in the beginning. See my thoughts on the issue:

http://hemiola07.wordpress.com/2010/...-french-to-me/

However, I'd say give it a try; it's so charming. And yes, if I wasn't a recorder player, I would not know about this stuff ....

I also very like Tartini and plan to get all his violin concerto. I think it is the same task as collecting Vivaldi's for the reason on how to avoid duplicity.

And how about more modern , classical composer as Boccherini, Viotti and Paganini, all very Italiano and masterful in their respected specialization (Boccherini=chamber, Viotti and Paganini=violin).
