I'm not here to blow up your kilts folks, I just wanted to introduce myself and promote my book. I'm not generally fond of classical music forums as in the past when I've been a member of such, I've found them full of self-important types who only wish to show-off. With that said, I'll come to the point and be totally honest and tell you that the only reason I joined this forum is so that I could promote my new historical fiction novel, So Faithful a Heart: The Love Story of Nancy Storace & Wolfgang Mozart. It's based on the research I did for my master's voice thesis on Mozart's original Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro, the English soprano, Ann(a) "Nancy" Storace. Because it is a piece of historical fiction (although very well-researched), I'm not making any claims that it is end-all and be-all of Mozart TRUTH. It is however, based on very thorough and thoughtful research into the relationship that Mozart may well have had with Nancy Storace and her brother, Stephen.
If you're a lover of historical fiction, you'll love this book. It's great, too, for lovers of romance, for it is a very romantic story (although NOT a romance novel), and/or if you're a lover of Mozart, I think you'll enjoy the insights I have into his personality and life. If you're a snobby dilettante, who only wishes to critique, it's probably not the book for you. If you're a Constanze lover, it might offend you, although I don't present Constanze in a negative light. It is available on Amazon.com in both paperback and in Kindle format. Here is the link to the promo blog which has extensive information, reviews, and links to where it may be purchased. Thanks for your time and interest! |

Hey, the book sounds cool! You should stick around and tell us more about Mozart.

Scott, there is a big difference between promoting and presenting one's work to those who might be interested and showing off, Mr. Senior member.

Thank you. I might stick around if I find the climate amiable enough. Like I said, I generally don't like these kinds of forums. I most often find them as stuffy and intolerant as the churches I've attended. However, I found that although my book crosses into two very popular genres (historical fiction & historical romance), that I was missing a huge target audience if I refused to market to the classical music crowd. (My own crowd.) I thought it best to be upfront with the reason I joined rather than lurk in the forums and skirt around with it for a few days and then lower the boom. I've been in so many forums over the years where people who have written books have done that and I have absolutely no respect or tolerance for that kind of dishonesty.
I love Mozart and I know a lot about Mozart. I know even more about Nancy Storace. I should. I've spent over 10 years in solid research about her. I've also spent numerous years in research over their times and cultures and the 18th century in general. A lot of time, research, and knowledge has gone into this book and I'm proud of it. I want people to read it. I don't give a crap about arguing with someone over some trivial details concerning some Mozart work, or the cause of Mozart's death. So I'll lurk for a little while and if I find some place where I can contribute thoughtfully and intelligently, I will. |

Heh.
As usual, Philidor, you've summarised it neatly.Nettl, if you'll withdraw your stings a little way, you will find that people here are really very nice. I can understand why you may be feeling a little prickly, since trouble does often happen on Internet forums in general (not just classical music ones), and I'm guessing you've been bitten by a few trolls in your time. They're very effectively discouraged here, though. I still have the scars from some old troll bites on other forums myself, look. *rolls up sleeve to show you* I wouldn't stay here if I didn't feel safe. Welcome.

Now did I really say that?
No, I didn't. I merely stated that I don't normally like these kinds of forums because of the unsavory characters they seem to draw. And believe me, I've had LOTS of experience in forums such as these before I got so burned that I couldn't stand to post in them any longer. You don't have to buy my book. That's not what I said. I was merely making you aware that it's out there and if you're interested, I would love for you to read it. I'm a writer. I worked hard and spent a lot of time and effort in telling this beautiful story and I want people to have the opportunity to read it. After all, is that not the purpose of art in any form--for it to be seen, heard or read? It's not about your buying it (and me making money), so much as I am genuinely in love with this story and I really do want to share it with people who I know might be even more likely to appreciate it. |

To the Mongoose:
I've found that in places such as these its better to come off a little "prickly" at first rather than vulnerable. That way folks will find out that you're not actually that way at all and the ones who would too easily take advantage of a "nice person" are thrown off the scent. Really, I'm a very warm and personable lady. I'm very direct and open about my feelings and opinions. I abhor passive/aggressive manipulation and/or head games and therefore I refuse to engage in such, so sometimes that makes me appear "prickly". I'm not. ![]() Again, I love Mozart. What does that say about me? Well, Mozart was very much a "heart chakra" composer. His music appeals to the heart. I also love Handel for that very same reason, and Faure, and Rachmaninoff... That should tell you all about me you really need to know. I'm really not grumpy at all! LOL!

Good!
Well, I haven't found anyone here who wants to take advantage of nice people. You should find yourself at home. We don't bite, though we do occasionally Bach. All the best with the book - it sounds like the sort of thing a lot of people will enjoy. I'll be equally honest and say I'm not a fan of romantic fiction myself, but I do know people who are, and I can think of a few people who might like to hear about it. I'll point them your way.
