What does that meen? I dont understand the expression "composing batting average"?

It is a baseball reference. A hitter's batting average is the number of hits out of the number of at bats. So someone who in a year goes 256 out of 1000 is said to have a batting average of .256

I apply it to composers all the time. It is the number of pieces that are really, really good out of the total output. Chopin's is REDICULOUSLY high, which is unusual for someone so prodiguous. Like my current comp advisor says "Thank God we remember composers for their best efforts, and not their worst".
