Hi Herodotas.

The whole point of this site is everyone's welcome from all areas of classical music. The curse of 'Western Art Music' is snobbery. It never used to be like this (in Britain) with the big public subscription concerts in the 19th/early 20th centuries encouraging all and sundry to hear live music, but the musical establishment took a wrong road with snobs and elitists gaining control. I know one British classical music website (which shall be nameless) where joiners are asked if they're 'professionals' or 'amateurs'. If you answer 'professional' you're given a special badge which appears next to your name so 'amateurs' can look up to you in a suitably subservient manner! That's how ridiculous it's got: snobbery and a class system infesting arguably the most important art form.

Dear Herodotas,

It's very nice to meet you.

And if you don't like a particular sort of music, feel free to say so. I always do!

Not liking, say - for the sake of argument - Stockhausen is not a personal attack on people who do. We're adults. We can like or dislike what we want.
