Hello everyone,
greetings from Serbia.
let me introduce myself...I'm Milena from Serbia, I'm 16 and I'm occupied by opera singing and playing piano. I adore classical music and everything connected with it. I'm a little more interested in vocal music, but I appreciate and adore all sorts of classical music. I like chatting with persons who have similar interests as me, internet, nature, poetry, literature, Dostoevsky, blahblah, I love my friends, summer holiday, literature, Anna Netrebko, Angela Gheorghiu and Cecilia Bartoli.

So after being dutifully called out by Flo for trolling a little bit and hiding in the shadows, I suppose I should introduce myself since.. well, I have been bitten by the bug and started posting more!

My name is Josh Newton, I am a graduate student in composing (right now, but I might be switching to conducting for the gig opportunities!). I live in the US (Maine, to be exact, far Northeast reaches of the country) with my wife, our 7 year old and our two crazy cats. Flo was nice enough to post one of my compositions in the showcase a few weeks ago, and if I were to characterize my style I would say Neo-Romantic, Post-Ivesian, obscurely tonal and modal, and hopefully pleasant.

I am a student of 20th Century music in general, and have started recording (although not posting yet) a series of podcasts about music since 1900 called Transfigured Night. I have three installments so far, one on Schoenburg and the Second Viennese School (more Sch than the others, with the little Piano pieces and Verklachtenacht), one on Impressionism (cathedrale egloutie, Ravel's piano sonata and some Satie), and the third is on what chromatic expansion on instruments did to symphonic music (ie, you don't need crooks etc for horns, so now you can have stuff like Rite of Spring).

Who knows what I want to be when I grow up, but professional student suits me now. I am also a database designer during the day, so I stay busy! Always interested in discussing modern music and where it is going/coming from/getting on the wrong path/all messed up.

Hi Maureen - Yes, this past winter was horrific, even for Maine standards. For those not in this part of the world, by Winter, I mean from October 1 until April 1, generally the time that we have snow on the ground, or at least in the forecast.

How funny, my wife is originally from El Cajon!
