Default St James’s 1, Hitler 0

I ran a market stall at St James's Church, Piccadilly yesterday, and had a Mendelssohn experience.

Magic and Mendelssohn at St James’s

It's a beautiful church with a vigorous set of priests and support staff. They do good work with the homeless -- yesterday I walked into the church and had to tip-toe round the left hand side because men were asleep on the pews - safe and warm. A musician was playing in the gallery. It was a good atmosphere. William Blake was baptized there in 1757.

Pics taken in August. I went looking for the grave of François-André Danican Philidor whom the Wiki article claims is buried there. He's not! Maybe he was but the grave’s been moved, possibly to North London. He played chess in nearby chess clubs and died in London an exile in 1795 -- unable to return to revolutionary France because of his upper class connections.

Very nice pictures Philidor. Were you selling Bright Cecilia T-shirts?
We have been there some years ago, they do a lot of very good social work.

No, but I'm there next week and will take some in. I see Maggie Cole is playing on Monday:

Monday 12 October 1.10pm
Jacqueline Ross violin
Maggie Cole piano
"Violin and Fortepiano - from the Viennese Salon"
to include Schubert's Rondo in B minor
and the "Trockne Blumen" Variations in a version for violin

Unfortunately I won't be there then, but she's top class: http://maggiecole.net/. It's a fabulous location for a stall with a classical music angle.
