Thinking of Sibelius's love of geese, reminded me of the assisted Whooping Crane migrations, and the film 'Fly Away Home'. These rare and exquisite birds are led on assisted migrations by loons dressed as parent birds in microlights.

'Landing gear DOWN!' 'Landing gear UP!' A 'parent' chases off a hungry golden eagle. It's like September 1940 above the Kent hop fields! WOOPS |

is not that big a deal
it has to be done to allow the red cross, state and federal agencies, including fema to begin communications and it allows local fire and police to set up command centers and begin the funding to start to flow for those things and is done to prevent another hurricane katrina type diaster when no one was getting the aid sent in also, evacuation operations sound like they've taken place at least in the keys so the declaration of the emergency is not crucial the sustained wind speed, possible tornados on the forward right edge of the storm is what to watch for hopefully the relatively short span from cuba to mainland florida isn't enough to get the storm cranked up (the warm gulf waters in late summer early fall creates a bigger storm) but the distance across the gulf is relatively short-i can't see on the weather station how defined the eye is but a tropical storm or a category 1 or 2 hurricane shouldn't be that bad and my son is in the path in georgia but hopefully the storm will dissipate before it gets to him-the rest of the family is west of the storm they are stressful things-i went through several evacuations and two nasty storms-it was a sunny day by late afternoon and we just got heavy rains and some tree limbs came down in my yard when katrinna hit-but the newscasts of what was happening just west of us was heartbreaking anyway... |
