Default The Friendly Olympics

The Olympics of course is all about friendship, peace and I am sure we can look back to the 1936 Berlin Olympics opening ceremony to see how true that is .
Strange that the media has a kind of amnesia on this point, but then again perhaps not.

It's sadly true. The BBC recently had a field-day in Ukraine - connected with Euro-2012 - claiming that Ukraine is a racist nightmare state, and forecasting what should happen 'if/when' the Ukraine fans abused non-white players. Of course, it takes a particular kind of BBC neocon nutcase to think all this up out of nothing whatseover - but the sacred cow of 'racism' is a marvelous catch-all for making unsubstantiated allegations.

In reality, of course. there were no incidents of racist abuse at all - it was all another case of the BBC making up news to suit its paymasters.

Unbelievably, thanks to new HMRC rules which were quietly ushered in as part of Team GB's winning bid, the Olympic site in East London has now become the world's latest – albiet temporary - tax haven.
What sticks in my throat are endless athletes coming on the telly and droning on about how patriotic they are, how they're doing it all "for Britain."

No! The Olympics is supposed to be about internationalism. That's the point you numbskull! It's about world humanity coming together in an almighty, peace-loving, shindig. Not the design of your passport.... and the fact you were born in Bagshot.

Read a book you sweaty oaf!

I see Patricia Russell, daughter of Eric Liddell (the "Flying Scotsman" of the 1924 Paris Olympics, immortalised in Chariots of Fire) feels similarly:

Quote:
Patricia thinks her father Eric would have been dismayed by the professional athletics of today. “Everything has become so national now,” she says. “You have to do it for your country. He was the fastest on the day. Not every day, but that day. That was enough for him.”

Nothing like the Olympics. The internationalism is focused into one
city's venues.
It seems like the competition is not as severe between some countries, as it once was - some may recall the famous
ice hockey playoff game at Lake Placid 1980 with U.S. and U.S.S.R
- as if world dominance by one country was at stake.
In both winter and summer games, Russia and East Germany were
always vying with the U.S. to show off their athleticism, with all
three countries the top three in medal counts.
Little Norway was right with them in the winter games.
In the most recent games, it is U.S. and China - and they usually
have the most entries.
I recently heard a stat that there are 212 countries now - so most
should be at the upcoming Games - even if only one entrant.
Good luck London

The BBC as we know is run by Marxists who regard all forms of national culture as the enemy.

The WSJ's Joel Schectman reports that NBC and Google are conducting “war games” in at least three countries, in preparation for possible hacker attacks or hardware screwups that could interrupt web streaming of the 2012 Summer Olympics Games in London, which begin this month. The planned online streaming, if successful, will be the largest-ever online offering of a sports event.

I'm not sure I would call them Marxists, although I see what you mean.

There's an agenda to promote wars led by the United States. I doubt Marxists would be involved in that. We have some members on this site who are part of all this - perhaps they would like to come forward and explain what it's all about?

I agree both about the Marxist point and the US point.
So far as the US is concerned, it is an incredibly difficult task to assess how far the neo-cons and Zioinsts have effective power.
It is true they have a lot of influence, but to say they are dominant would need to be proved and I think it's more complex than that.
The primary aim of US foreign policy is to control the oil supplies in the Middle East and everything else as I see it is secondary to that.
The BBC is an interesting case, because whilst in some senses it has a pro Palestinian agenda, there is also a significant Zionist component as well. I would take them to be, however, cultural Marxists in that they want to destroy what remains of British culture.
