But is dancing ALL about precision and discipline? I want to see some soul and emotion too....and I find that in the Moscow-trained dancers in particular (with the emphasis in the last 40 years on their virtuoso capabilities), that that is the area that has been capitalised on, to the detriment of the acting side.
I wish there were video clips of the Don Q performed here.....but here is a link to some rehearsal pics..... http://www.nzballet.org.nz/image-gal...ress-rehearsal Here is the promotional poster...

Hi Deb, thanks for thos pics. I'm pooped right now and need to get a little sleep but I'd love to discuss this more with you. I agree with you though on the point your making.

I agree with you that the acting side does play a part (though not as much as in opera). If you look at the clips that you reference and the show I watched you'd never know it was supposed to be the same ballet because of the difference in sets. All the sets were in the one that I saw was painted backgrounds, which are ok. If that was the standard at the time I don't take off points for that.
My only complaint about some of the other companies was that sometimes you see members "seemingly" not paying attention to what's going on if it's not their turn to dance. Hey Deb, any suggestions on a good ballet on DVD? My wife informed me today that she likes ballet more than opera so I'll need to be picking up another one soon. See ya' ~sg~ |

Look for Coppelia by the Australian Ballet...that's quite a good one. Off the top of my head though....need to think it over....will add some more later.

Yes, she is. You will like that one.
I must say that my favorite is Wozzak but partially because of the performance on the DVD I saw. I bought it used at a stupid price but it came in "like new" condition and now I've got a good one. ![]() This one is the one I'm watching after Julius Ceaser:

Oh wow! That looks really good. I tend to forget about the dramatic aspect of Pierrot Lunaire.

Herzeleide, I put my Pierre Lunaire in my DVD player and it said it was the wrong type of disk!!
![]() I'm going to write Amazon about it but I don't know if they'll show any sympathy. It's been awhile since I bought it.
