Brightcecilia respects members' privacy and takes the subject very seriously. This statement describes what information is gathered about members and how it is used.
Brightcecilia gathers two types of information:
(1) data which users provide through optional, voluntary submissions to receive admin emails, to participate in forums and social networking features, to email a friend, and from participation in polls and surveys; and
(2) data gathered via tracking throughout the site, allowing content to be tailored to members' needs.
Under no circumstances will Brightcecilia sell or rent member information, or divulge data about an individual member to a third party, except to comply with applicable law or valid legal process or to protect the personal safety of members or the public.
If Brightcecilia is required by law to disclose information which you have submitted, we will attempt to give you notice (unless we are prohibited) that a request for your information has been received, to give you an opportunity to object to the disclosure. If you do not challenge the disclosure request, we may be legally required to turn over your information.
In addition, we will object independently to requests for access to information about users that we believe to be improper.
Optional Voluntary Information
Brightcecilia offers the following free services, which require some type of voluntary submission of personal data by members:-
1. Forums
Users of Brightcecilia forums must register for this service (free of charge) to post messages, although they need not register to visit the site. During registration the user is asked to supply a username, password, and email address. There are other, optional, fields, e.g. Myspace url, which users may ignore if they wish.
2. 'E-mail this to a friend' Service
Members may choose to forward a link, page, or document to someone else by clicking 'e-mail this to a friend'. The user must provide their email address, and that of the recipient. This information is used only in the case of transmission errors and to let the recipient know who sent the email.
3. Polling
Brightcecilia may offer interactive polls to members so they may share their opinions with other users and to establish what members think about important issues. Unless the 'public poll' option is chosen, opinions or other responses to polls are aggregated and not identifiable to any particular user. Brightcecilia may use a system to 'tag' users after they have voted, so they can vote only once on a particular question.
4. Surveys
Brightcecilia may conduct surveys better to target content. Such information will never be shared with any third party in ways which identify specific individuals.
Children
Consistent with the Federal Children's Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998 (COPPA), Brightcecilia will never knowingly request personally identifiable information from anyone under the age of 13 without having obtained prior parental consent.
Usage tracking
Brightcecilia tracks user traffic patterns throughout the site so the service may be analysed, improved and defended. Brightcecilia may track and catalogue the search terms which users enter in the Search function, but this tracking is never associated with an individual user. Such information is used to determine which areas of the site members like and do not like based on traffic to those areas. Brightcecilia does not track what individual users read but, rather, how well each page performs overall.
Cookies
Brightcecilia may place a text file called a 'cookie' in the browser files of your computer. The only personal information a cookie contains is data you supply yourself. A cookie cannot read your hard drive or read cookie files created by other sites.
You may refuse cookies by turning them off in your browser. If you have set your browser to warn you before accepting cookies, you will receive a warning message with each cookie. You do not need to have cookies turned on to use Brightcecilia. However, you do need cookies to participate actively in forums, polls and surveys.
Cookies on Brightcecila are used for storing login information and for statistical site-traffic analysis.
Sharing information
Brightcecilia will not share information about individual users with any third party, except to comply with applicable law or valid legal process or to protect the personal safety of our users or the public.
Security
Brightcecilia operates secure data networks protected by industry standard firewall and password protection systems. Only authorised individuals have access to information provided by Brightcecilia users.
